Can you share a bit about your journey with addiction and what led you to seek recovery?
I was an addict and alcoholic for over 10 yrs. Battling this disease and to stay functional for my family and the community. I was miserable and a prisoner in my own mind and body. I had nothing lose and finally surrender completely broken and desperate for any help,
At what point did you realize that you needed help, and what was your turning point?
I was hopeless and had lost all healthy supportive relationships I had left. Willing to take my own life if I couldn’t find solution, I reached out to my family in one last attempt to get the help I needed. Fortunately them were willing to take me to a treatment center. I be been sober ever since. They saved my life that day!!!
What was the hardest part about admitting that you had a problem with addiction?
Feeling like an outcast. Feeling that I was weak. Feeling that I would be judged and not lovable
Who or what had the greatest impact on your recovery, and why?
God! Alcoholics anonymous got me sober but me relationship with God has transformed me and kept me sober
What challenges did you face in the early stages of recovery?
Letting go of control. Learning to live life in life’s terms. Getting my anxiety manageable
What are some daily habits that help you in your sobriety?
12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous with a sponsor. My relationship with God. The recovery community and support system I’ve created
What are your top "absolutes" for maintaining sobriety?
Fellowship, 12 steps, paying it forward to others, my family and friends
Tell us about your life today?
Blessed! Never would I thought I could transform into the person I am today. Never would I thought this program would give me the serenity and peace I always prayed for. I am a mom, a friend, a sponsor, a business owner, a woman in recovery, who had built a life from this recovery community that I wouldn’t want to lose for anything in this world.
What did we miss? Please share anything else that your feel important about your journey.
Today I get to wake up daily and serve this recovery community. God gets to use my struggles and strengths to have an actual purpose of serving him and others. As the owner of Aurora Sober Living, I get to work hand and hand with many amazing colleagues in recovery to help others who are broken, like I once was, too start developing their own beautiful life in recovery. One day at a time.

I am the owner of Aurora Sober Living. We have 12 houses in Aurora for men and women to start there recovery journey. We at ASL thrive on creating culture and structure to help those get the support, love and guidance they need to be successful in there recovery long term.
